Approved Retirement Fund (ARF)

Award winning Pensions Broker

Your flexible pension drawdown vehicle.

Prior to 1999 when you matured your pension you had to purchase an annuity with the balance remaining after you took your tax free lump sum.  While annuities were (and are still ) suitable for some people many others objected to the fact that they meant giving up your entire retirement fund For a fixed payment resulting in no flexibility for you and potentially nothing for your estate if you were to pass away.  ARFs changed all this.  Now when you retire you take your tax free lump sum as normal then the balance can be invested in an ARF which is like a continuation of the pension fund, the money still grows tax free but you can make withdrawals from it.  Withdrawals are taxable as income.  You have control of it how much you withdraw and if you die with an ARF the fund will pass to your next of kin.  Unlike an annuity some planning is required regarding the investment strategy and withdrawals from the approved retirement fund to make sure it lasts as long as you need it to.  Professional advice is recommended before deciding to purchase an ARF

Who can get an ARF?

If you fall into any of the following categories:
  • A participant in an employer-sponsored defined contribution pension scheme
  • Holder of pension benefits within a Personal Retirement Bond (PRB), including benefits transferred from a Defined Benefit (DB) scheme
  • Owner of a Personal Retirement Savings Account (PRSA)
  • Holder of a Personal Pension Plan

I worked with Brian Forde on advise and managing my upcoming pension. I had no knowledge my options, what I could do with my non-contributory company pension. Brian arranged Team meetings to explain the options with back up figures and explained so clearly what I could do to personalise the pension to suit my needs. I felt confident to proceed with a solution worked out with me by Brian.

Conor recently gave me advice on my pension. He gave the best advice I have received from any financial advisor I have been involved with. He explained things in layman's terms so it was easy to understand. I really appreciated this and am delighted to give this feedback.
